Thank you for this! I didn't know rotoscoping was good practice - I'm glad I read this before I started animating. I can't say I'm the most suited to give advice, nor that what I'm saying hasn't been said before, but I hope this was helpful.Īt 2/18/21 05:16 AM, FlikkiShassART wrote: SAI crashes more often than FA, but I still had FA crash once. It's mostly about your own confidence in your abilities. Look at old Hanna-Barbara cartoons see how they use tricks to save on animation like using a collar to seperate the animated head from the non-animated body? You can keep the head on a seperate layer to the body, but it doesn't just apply to heads you can seperate other things like arms or legs, so you only have to animate those rather than the whole thing. Try 'rotoscope' style animation first, as that's easier and is good practice. Check your animation in motion often there's a setting in FA that plays it in a smaller window- it's helpful. Just remember to turn it off when you want to erase something- you'll know what I mean when you try it. Use the 'preserve opacity' option it's very useful for shading or changing colour in linework without having to redraw it. You can then refine your sketch on a layer on top of it without clutter. Lastly, use the opacity bar to make sketching easier. Name layers and put them in folders so you don't lose track. It also helps to keep your layers organised. ![]() Note that if you want to go down a more traditional painting route, where colours mix and blend, it's better to keep most of the colours on one layer, but I'm not very good at that so I can't say much. the colour of the hair is on layer one, skin is on layer two, etc. Seperate each element of your drawing on a different layer, so that they don't get into the way of each other e.g. I must've done a lot of 'colour-by-the-numbers' books when I was a kid, because that's kind of how I do my art. Layers are great for doing colours and effects. Again, there's not much one can say other than experiment. I personally prefer more pencil looking brushes and hard, bold lines that taper off, but that doesn't mean you will. Experiment with brush settings, and write the settings that you like down so you don't forget, in case you have to wipe your harddrive or something. You could use the most basic of art programs, like paint, and still make good art, so a good art software is not omni-important. Practice still life, practice anatomy, backgrounds, colours heck, despite what a lot of people feel about it, tracing is a very good learning tool. Knowledge is much more useful for art than fancy tools. I know it might not sound very useful, but I think it is.įocus on the basics. If not, then maybe you should. If you feel like you're not sure about it's full extent, then it just means you should experiment more. But it doesn't really matter what software you use, as long as you feel comfortable with it. My partner started drawing and animating (for the first time) with it in December, and she's been really enjoying it.Īs for if it's good for long term use? Sure, I can see it being good for a long time. If I wasn't so used to using SAI I would be using it more often. I've tried FireAlpaca recently and I have to say that I quite enjoy it it's much more functional than SAI is in my opinion, and I've tried my hand in animating with it. So for anyone who truly mastered how to use it, is it ACTUALLY that good for long-term use? And mind giving out some advanced tips for me with regards to brush settings, layers, and animation? I've been using FireAlpaca for my digitals for at least two years now, and I'm still feeling like I'm not really sure about the full extent of what this program can do. All-in-all, I really appreciated the film as a whole, although some of the animation and action sequences seemed somewhat unfinished, or at least too difficult to believe (even for an Indy film). I was very impressed by Cate Blanchett, and to my surprise very pleased with Shia LeBeouf's character and acting. There is a lot of computer animation-most of it looks believable, but some of it does not-but that which was done well fits superbly. The camera is certainly held much more stable than many of today's films, and the action is very clear and easy to follow, as is the stunt work great. The trailer for Stranger Things Season 4, Part 2 has landed, and it teases an absolutely huge season finale with monsters, explosions, and Eddie playing guitar right. The final trailer for Netflixs The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance shows off the action we can expect in the 10-episode series, which utilizes puppetry over CGI effects. As long as you don't expect another Raiders of the Lost Ark, you'll probably be pleased with the film as it is, with the exception of one sequence which doesn't quite seem to fit. The film itself is well written, and well made with only a few exceptions. I actually think it's a little unfair to present this new type of film under the great Indiana Jones reputation, and however smart marketably I believe this, and the lack of understanding and inaccurate expectations on the audience's behalf will ultimately lead to the film's demise. It certainly overlaps with the previous films, however most of that seems to affect the new film trivially. ![]() ![]() Frankly, it should be viewed as a new series. Rather than have a “good” or “evil” meter, players build reputation individually with a number of the factions in Colorado, with decisions positively or negatively affecting each group’s opinion of you. From this premise, Wasteland 3 wastes no time in tackling a decidedly different approach to morality and story decisions. Players control a pair of Rangers, one of the last vestiges of law and order in this new world. Wasteland 3 is a top-down strategy RPG set in a post-apocalyptic Colorado. However, there is a game that also delves into the complicated web of moral choices, and manages to do so in a much more compelling manner. And when the choice is so neatly segregated into purely Good or Bad, you have a much greater tendency for players to lean towards the Good option. However, when a game offers players a distinct option between being a hero or a villain, more often than not players will gravitate toward what makes more sense in the context of the story. There’s no real choice to take a more morally righteous approach, and that’s why they are able to succeed as villain-centric stories. However, with each of these games, being a villain is the price of entry. Destroy All Humans, Overlord, Prototype - there are certainly a number of games that allow players to flex their more villainous tendencies. Grand Theft Auto V is one of the most popular games to ever exist, a game in which gunning down civilians and being a general scumbag isn’t just a feature, it’s a primary reason to play the game. Now, this isn’t to say that gamers are implicitly opposed to playing as more morally dubious characters. ![]() Even though you can progress the story in very similar ways whether you lean Paragon or Renegade, the reality is that when given a choice to be a good guy or straight-up villain, most players will choose to be heroic rather than villainous. Choosing to murder brainwashed colonists when you have the means to save them via sleep grenades isn’t a complex moral choice, it’s a litmus test for whether or not you’re a psychopath. Regardless of how you feel about bureaucracy, most people would probably agree that killing the entire galactic government is a bad long-term idea. And with this type of character, the loud-mouthed, arrogant, violent, and usually tactless dialogue options in the Renegade tree simply don’t match with who Shepard is. Shepard is a character who is meant to liaison with and oftentimes serve as a diplomatic figure for a multitude of alien races. While Renegade options are sold to the player as a way to make their Shepard a hard-ass who doesn’t play by the rules but gets results, many of these decisions simply don’t make sense in the grand scheme of Shepard’s role.
